Stan’s September Blog –

Another month filled with lots of meetings both in council and around the ward. Here are just a few of the matters I have been involved with.

I have just finished a course on speed cameras so I can go around the ward doing checks, but I have to wait for police clearance first.

Idsall Drive car park is now about to start being developed, with a five-bedroom, five en-suite bathroom house.  The local residents are not too happy about the size and the design.
But we have to thank our LD council for their push to sell.

All this rain we have just had has caused a lot of problems with flooding.
Glebe Road flooded once again this time with the flood getting very close to the houses. This problem has been on my radar for some time now since I was alerted by one of our members who is a resident there. Highways have sent teams to inspect previously and had planned a major study to resolve.         So once again I got in touch with them to highlight this latest flood and Highways have confirmed they are going to dig up the flooded area and look what the problem is with the drains.

Flooding also in Swindon Lane.
Had a call from a resident about flooding, just after the roundabout at the bottom of Tommy Taylor’s Lane. This has been a problem for some time. It appears to involve the drain near the bus stop, so once again I’ve been on to the GCC Highways Dept asking for a proper review of this problem and urging them to try and get it sorted out this time.

There has been an ongoing planning problem in Finchcroft Lane, and although I had a lengthy fight to get it sorted it was very nice to receive an email from a resident thanking me for the effort I put into helping solve this local problem. Always good to have feedback.

Well, the new layout at the racecourse roundabout is currently a wonder to behold !
Having had to use it a few days ago, it got a bit scary.  If you come up to the roundabout from Swindon Lane, the new markings just before the junction on the LEFT instruct you to turn left but actually at the junction, you can go left to B/C or straight on down New Barn Lane.
But on the RIGHT hand side of the junction, it shows you can go straight on down New Barn Lane or right for Evesham Road.  Well on my approach, as I am an old hand at this, I put myself in the right-hand lane for New Barn Lane (as I have done for years), only to find a car on my left-hand side heading for New Barn Lane at speed, well he must have had a new horn for his birthday and some new French lessons.

I have been on to Highways to have an urgent, serious look into the new road markings all the way around the approaches to the roundabout as I gather that coming in from the B/C side there is also some lack of clarity.

Very Best Wishes to ALL,
Stan
(Cllr Stan Smith, PAB Prestbury)
